What is a trifecta bet?

To place a Trifecta bet at the local horse track or online racebook, you must choose three horses that you believe will finish first, second and third. To win the bet, those three horses must finish in that order.

To win the wager, your favorite must finish first and your other two horses must finish second and third. So, if you designate the No. 1 horse as your favorite and also choose the No. 2 and No. 3 horse, you will win the bet if either of the following finishes occurs - 1-2-3, or 1-3-2.

The last variation of a Trifecta bet is called a Superfecta. With this wager, you must select four horses and also select the exact order in which they will finish. Basically you are trying to predict the horses that will finish first, second, third and fourth.
