National Poker League Launched

Inaugural National Poker League set to begin in London

The opening date for the inaugural National Poker League is August 12th and will debut in London. The first United Kingdom Open is set to introduce to the world the first season of the National Poker League. The tournament will be held at the famous Loose Cannon Club in London. The tournament will first begin with several preliminary events and satellite tournaments and will eventually lead to the final table on August 18th.

The UK Open is the first event on the National Poker League's 2007 World Circuit Tour that will have other stops in countries such as Australia, the Philippines and the United States. One of the main draws of the tournament is that it will be televised so it should draw some of the top professional players from around the world. Sam Riddle, who is the president of the National Poker League's TV division, stated, "We are extremely pleased that the Loose Cannon Club has partnered with the NPL to host our first international televised poker tournament in Europe. We will be filming throughout the qualifying rounds and producing six one-hour episodes of the UK Open,"

The NPL is scheduled to have 26 TV episodes that will be broadcast internationally. The broadcasts of the tournaments are slated to reach in excess of 100 million households. All 26 of the televised episodes will be broadcast in High-Definition and will not only show the action of the tournament but interviews with top professionals and poker tips for the fans at home. For poker fans in the United States the tournaments will be broadcast on WGN (Chicago) and on iNHD cable channels.

Not only will the United Kingdom Open receive a hefty first place prize they will also receive a gorgeous National Poker League UK Open Winner's Cup trophy. One of the festivities associated with the tournament is a silent auction on August 16th where the benefits will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity based in London. There will be many valuable prizes as well as prizes with a poker theme.
