Harry Potter - Entertainment Betting
When J. K Rowling started the Harry Potter series in 1990, she could not have foreseen the impact it would have on pop culture. The Potter series has sold over 300 million copies, and the movie based on "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is the fourth-highest grossing film of all time, while the other three films are all in the top 25.
The Harry Potter brand has earned over four billion dollars in profit, and has been translated into Latin and Ancient Greek. Rowling has been credited with increasing literacy rates for readers of all ages, and the phenomenon does not appear to be slowing down any time soon with the impending release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" on July 21, 2007.
Odds are out at BetCris regarding the number of sales for the first 24 hours of release in the United States, and the favored amount (+330) is that more than 10 million copies will be sold out of the gate. Rowling's last novel, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", sold over 6.9 million copies in its first 24 hours in America. "The Half-Blood Prince" received mixed reviews from critics and die-hard Potter fans, but that will probably spark more of an interest in the next installment of the series.
At the other end of the spectrum is the nine-to-ten-million copy range, which is listed at +5007.
Here are the current odds available at BetCris for the amount of copies that will be sold in the U.S.A. during the first 24 hours of the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".
