American Idol - Entertainment Betting

It is down to the final two contestants in FOX's hit show, "American Idol", as the sixth season winds down this week. Melinda Doolittle, after coming in as the favorite for the latter half of the competition, was eliminated last week leaving only Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis.

Sparks has made a late charge to the top of the American Idol pile, as she is rated the favorite at -347 at Pinnacle to win the competition. Sparks performed a rousing rendition of Shirley Bassey's "I (Who Have Nothing)", earning rave reviews from Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. While Simon Cowell was not impressed with her song choice, he did say that she sang it extremely well.

Sparks' voice is mature beyond her 17 years of age, and her evolution throughout this competition has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Lewis is listed at +301 as the underdog to beat Sparks, and he chose Robin Thicke's "When I Get You Alone", a much more modern choice than Sparks. But Lewis' performance paled in comparison to Sparks, as it sounded more appropriate for a karaoke bar. Jackson thought Lewis was just all right, as did Abdul, while Cowell, surprisingly, was very complementary of Lewis.

However, most fans feel as though Lewis is only still in the American Idol competition because the rules require one member from each sex to represented in the final, and that Doolittle should still be in the competition. This could persuade those who voted for Doolittle to side with Sparks. But that does not take away from the fact that Sparks so far deserves to be crowned the winner of this season's American Idol, and there is a career ahead for this gifted young songstress.
